What Should Homeowners do After Discovering Water Damage in Their Levittown Property?

The damage was caused by an HVAC System overflow. SERVPRO had the tools to restore this home.

Remediating Water Damage in Levittown

Levittown homeowners can get hit with weather coming off the Great South Bay.  However, they know that most of their water damage over time often comes from a failed, high-level shut-off valve or broken pipe.

Remediating Levittown water damage requires equipment like commercial grade pumps and other extraction devices to remove the water from behind walls and under floors. If the leak was overhead, there could be water in the attic as well. SERVPRO technicians use these and other devices like air movers, exhaust fans, and dehumidifiers to dry each home thoroughly and carefully to avoid further damage to the home.

That’s not to say a homeowner has to wait for one of our restoration teams to arrive. There are efforts each one can take to prepare their residence before our first technician sets foot inside the home.

First, turn off the leak when possible. If the source of water is a split hose or a broken pipe, then turn off the water at the break. If not possible, then turn it off leading into the home. It may be necessary to have the water department do it. The less water in the home means the fewer time technicians have to spend removing it.

Second, have insurance documents and phone number ready. Each company has lists of property they replace or repair. The sooner technicians have this information, they can begin to remove furniture and other property from home for disposal.

Third, don’t try to make things easier for SERVPRO response teams. It is not necessary to remove anything before our teams arrive on site. Each team member is trained to inspect and remove property so that it does not accidentally cause further damage to the home. If there is an item that might need special care, please point it out, but don’t try to do it yourself.
